Autorama Motorsport claims 1-2 finish in 12H Paul Ricard

25 April 2021

Autorama Motorsport secured a 1-2 finish at the 12H Circuit Paul Ricard, third round of the 24H Series, a win that looked destined to go to TCR championship rival AC Motorsport.
At the start of the race, the AC Motorsport Audi RS 3 LMS (Stéphane Perrin / Mathieu Detry / David Dermont) got the jump on the polesitting Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI (Fabian Danz / Marlon Menden / Rhys Lloyd / Yannick Mettler) and, with only two hours left to run, had pulled two laps clear of the rest of the field. Issues with the Audi’s rear left wheel though forced two unscheduled pit stops, a delay that ultimately dropped the Belgian team to third behind the two Autorama cars.
In the end, Emil Heyerdahl in the #1 Autorama Motorsport Golf GTI he shared with Constantin Kletzer, Jérôme Ogay and Mettler led Lloyd in the #112 sister car across the line to secure the team’s first victory of the season. Behind a frustrated AC Motorsport the Tictap Totcar Sport CUPRA (Jorge Belloc Díaz / Jorge Belloc Ruiz / Álvaro Rodríguez) finished a solid fourth.
The RC2 Junior Team by Cabra Racing CUPRA Leon Competición (Rubén Fernández / Victor Fernández / Felipe Fernández) ran second throughout the opening stints but was eliminated before half distance after contact with a Porsche broke the CUPRA’s steering. The Red Camel-Jordans.nl CUPRA (Ivo Breukers / Rik Breukers / Luc Breukers) had a weekend to forget; the team worked until 4am to replace the engine and a broken wishbone, but electrical problems and broken steering ultimately led to retirement.
The 24H Series will resume for round 4 on 22/23 May, with the 12H Hockenheim.
