British Endurance Championship gets TCR official stamp

11 April 2023

WSC Group, the owner of the TCR trademark and Technical Regulations, has granted Britcar Endurance Ltd. with a one-year license to run a TCR class inside the 2023 British Endurance Championship.

Following a successful revamp six years ago, the Britcar organisation has entered the next stage of growth with the elevation of the Britcar Endurance Championship up to National status, to the Motorsport UK-sanctioned British Endurance Championship.

The season will be run on six events, each one featuring one race of two or three hours. An additional non-championship round will be held at Donington Park in July on the duration of six hours.

The opening round took place at Silverstone on March 25, with the participation on five teams in the TCR class that was won by the EDF Motorsports CUPRA Leon Competición driven by Marin Byford and Ashley Woodman.

WSC President Marcello Lotti said: “We are pleased to further expand the TCR footprint in Britain, adding to the successful growth of TCR UK. Welcoming the British Endurance Championship under WSC’s umbrella provides local drivers and teams with more and different opportunities to enjoy racing TCR cars.”

Claire Hedley, Managing Director of Britcar and the British Endurance Championship, said: "We are delighted to be officially hosting a class for TCR cars within the British Endurance Championship, strengthening our already-close association with the TCR brand, and placing the endurance-level specification of these exciting touring cars in a high profile MotorsportUK-sanctioned National Championship."

TCR UK promoter Stewart Lines added: “We are happy that the British endurance Championship is an official place to race TCR cars in an endurance capacity, as this further strengthens the TCR brand in the UK.”
