Constable wins, as four will fight for the title in the final race

30 August 2021

Jac Constable won the second race of TCR UK’s final event at Donington Park. The drivers delivered a breathtaking battle and four men will still be fighting for the title in the last race later this afternoon.
Lewis Kent recovered after going off during the first lap to finish sixth, and so retained the leadership in the standings, 16 points clear of his teammate and younger brother Bradley. Max Hart, runner up in the race, moved into the third position, 20 points off the leader, while Bruce Winfield, fourth under the chequered flag, lies fourth a further two points behind when 26 will be a stake in Race 3. Dan Kirby, who was placed third after the previous race, dropped out of contention after pitting while he was fifth.
At the start, Kirby led from the pole, but Hart passed him during the first lap, while Lewis Kent went wide and rejoined at the back. Winfield and Bradley Kent ran abreast while fighting for P4 and Kent passed his rival in lap 3. Constable overtook Kirby and Hart in one move, taking the lead and pulling away. Behind him a furious battle developed between Hart, Kirby, Bradley Kent, Alex Morgan and Winfield. Both Kirby and Winfield went wide onto the gravel and rejoined, while Bradley Kent and Morgan swapped third and fourth positions a couple of times. In lap 9, Kirby’s hopes to fight for the title vanished when he was forced to make a pit stop that cost him one lap.
Lewis Kent recovered and in lap 10 he benefited from Jack Depper’s mistake to move into seventh; then he passed Hugo Cook for sixth.
Costable had built a comfortable lead, but the battle continued behind him. Hart, Bradley Kent and Morgan were fighting for P2; Kent and Morgan make contact in lap 13 and then Morgan took P3 from Kent. As Kent’s pace faded, he tried to defend the fourth position from Winfield who managed to pass him during the final lap.
Constable took his second victory of the season, while Hart managed to keep Morgan behind to finish second. As Morgan was not eligible to score, Winfield, Bradley Kent and Lewis Kent were awarded the points for third, fourth and fifth positions.
The final race will start at 17:40 local time (18:40 CEST); live streaming at www.tcr-series-com. The grid, based on the second fastest laps set during the Qualifying session, will see Morgan on pole position with Winfield alongside; the other title contenders will start in this order: Hart fourth, Bradley Kent sixth and Lewis Kent 16th
