Gary Kwok beats Taskinen at the last turn in Race 2

The second race of the Canadian Touring Car Championship at Shannonville ended with a four-way sprint that was won by Gary Kwok who overtook Race 1 winner Matthew Taskinen at the last turn. Bob Attrell and Tom Kwok finished a close third and fourth respectively as the leading quartet was covered by two seconds only.
The race looked set to be a repetition of Saturday’s Race 1, with Taskinen taking the lead at the start and building a comfortable lead ahead of his teammate Jean-François Hevey who was keeping the rest of the field behind.
Everything changed when Hevey’s pace began to fade and he was finally passed by Gary Kwok and then by Attrell and Tom Kwok. This trio began to close the gap from the leader and on lap 33, the first four cars were running bumper-to-bumper, covered by only one second.
During the final lap, Taskinen made a small mistake at the entrance of the last turn, drove a bit wide and Gary Kwok didn’t miss the opportunity to pass him and claim his second win of the season, while Attrell kept Tom Kwok at bay to finish third.
The victory helped the M&S Racing driver to stretch his leading margin in the standings to 30 points ahead of Travis Hill.
The Canadian TCC will resume at Trois Rivières on 10/11 August.
