Gavrilov wins as Bragin extends points lead

11 August 2018

Klim Gavrilov converted his pole position into his second victory of the season in TCR Russia’s Race 2 at Moscow Raceway. The Carville Racing driver and his Volkswagen Golf GTI led from lights to flag and won from the Lukoil Racing SEAT León DSG of Andrej Maslennikov.
Dmitri Bragin completed the podium in the TAIF Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS and extended his leadership in the standings, while his closest competitor, LADA Sport Rosneft’s Kirill Ladygin finished off the points after being involved in a multiple collision at the start.
Gavrilov led the field into Turn 1, followed by Maslennikov, Bragin and Vitaliy Dudin in the Akhmat Racing Team Golf GTI. Lukoil Racing’s Aleksey Dudukalo had qualified fifth, but started from tenth on the grid because of a penalty he was given for an incident with Mikhail Grachev in the previous event.
As the mid-fielders negotiated T1, Timur Shigabutdinov’s Audi and Grigory Burlutskiy’s SEAT made contact, the former lost control and was collected by the LADA Vesta cars of Ladygin and Vladimir Sheshenin, while Pavel Yashin’s Cupra spun. Of the drivers involved, only Yashin and Ladygin were able to rejoin.
Gavrilov was in control, with Maslennikov comfortably in second position. The fight for the third place was decided at the end of lap 9, when Dudin tried to overtake Bragin, but outbraked himself and went off into the gravel.
Anton Badoev’s Cupra was classified fourth, while Roman Golikov won the fight for fifth in the UGMK Motorsport’s Golf GTI beating the Lukoil Racing pair of Ivan Lukashevich and Dudukalo, Lev Tolkachev’s Cupra and the Audi of Irek Minnakhmetov who lost three positions on the last lap due to a mistake.
In the standings, Bragin’s tally went up to 143 points, 24 over Ladygin; Gavrilov moved up to third, 38 points off the leader and two ahead of Lukashevich.
The second race will start tomorrow at 11:40 local time (10:40 CET); live streaming at www.tcr-series.com and www.tcr-series.tv
