Grid penalty drops Guerrieri from first to fourth in Race 2

Grid penalty drops Guerrieri from first to fourth in Race 2

15 November 2019

WTCR points leader Esteban Guerrieri was imposed a three-position grid penalty for impending Nicky Catsburg during today’s second Qualifying at Macau.
The Argentine driver had set the tenth fastest lap in Q2 winning pole position on the top-ten reversed grid for Sunday’s Race 2. However, he will now start from fourth, while Yann Ehrlacher will sit on pole, with Thed Björk alongside him and Kevin Ceccon in third position.Another consequence of today’s Qualifying sessions was the decision of Team WRT to withdraw Gordon Shedden because his Audi suffered from irreparable damage, following the crash in the Q1 part of Qualifying 2 that saw the Scotsman crashing into the barriers at Moorish Hill and being collected by Norbert Michelisz. Jim Ka To’s KCMG Honda Civic was also withdrawn after he bent the chassis in a crash at the Fishermens’ bend. This reduced from 32 to 26 the number of cars on the grid after four of the five local guest drivers – Anson Wong, Terence Tse, James Tang and Arthur Law – failed to comply with the maximum qualification time in both sessions.
