Kasper H. Jensen wins thrilling final race at Copenhagen

08 August 2021

Kasper H. Jensen claimed victory in the final race of the weekend from pole position, but had to fight hard for it, re-passing the Peugeot of Michael Markussen twice in an exciting battle at the Bellahøj Park street circuit.
Jensen started from pole position courtesy of his points scored over the first two races in his Massive Motorsport Honda, starting ahead of the LM Racing CUPRA of Nicolai Sylvest, and the Brian Madsen Sport Peugeot of Casper Elgaard.
At the start, Elgaard was picked off by Markussen from fourth on the grid, while Jensen pulled away from Sylvest for the lead.
On the second lap, Markussen then dived past Sylvest to snatch second place, while Jensen had already built up a two second lead.
That lead was soon decimated however, and there was also a sudden surprise rain shower which made things complicated at the start-finish straight for the competitors.
The race soon became a three-car battle, with Elgaard’s pace fading, while Sylvest closed up on Jensen and Markussen as an epic finale ensued.
With just five minutes left of the race, Markussen made a dive down the inside in the closing stages of the race, but lost momentum allowed Jensen back up the inside of the next corner and back into the lead.
Two laps later and Markussen did it again, and this time moved left to cover off Jensen into the next corner. While this worked, unfortunately Markussen then made a mistake at the next turn, and Jensen snatched the lead back again.
Markussen was lining up one more attempt on the final lap, but instead found himself under attack from Sylest, who tried to snatch second at the finish.
Jensen went on to win, while Markussen just pipped Sylvest at the line for second.
Jensen has now taken the lead in the standings, two points clear of Jan Magnussen, who was forced to sit out both of today’s races with crash damage in Race 1 yesterday; Elgaard lies in third place, nine further points adrift.
The next event of TCR Denmark will be at Jyllandsringen on August 20/21.
