Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky sets pole at Ring Knutstorp
03 May 2019
PWR Racing’s Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky set pole position for the opening round of TCR Scandinavia at Ring Knutstorp in a Qualifying session that was run in mixed weather conditions.
The track was dry during most of the twenty-minute Q1 in which 2017 champion Robert Dahlgren emerged as the fastest; Dahlgren was the only driver to break the one-minute wall as he posted two consecutive fastest laps of 59.991 and 59.963. Behind him there was a close battle and eventually his teammate Åhlin-Kottulinsky was second fastest (1:00.283) demoting Tobias Brink (1:00.334), Andreas Ahlberg (1:00.393), Mattias Andersson (1:00.500), Andreas Wernersson (1:00.528), Hannes Morin (1:00.550) and Albin Wärnelöw (1:00.593) who rounded off the top-eight for Q2.
A hail shower wetted the track just before the Q2 began. Ahlberg was the first one to post a valid time of 1:09.414 and towards the end of the session Brink (1:09.580) and Dahlgren (1:09.710) were able to get close, but only to place themselves provisionally in second and third.
However, on her last lap, Åhlin-Kottulinsky snatched pole position with a lap of 1:09.294.
Brink Motorsport teammates Morin and Wernesson ranked in sixth and fifth position respectively and so they will start from the front row of the reverse grid for Race 2.
The two races will start tomorrow at 13:10 and 15.25 (CET); live streaming at www.tcr-series.tv.
