The inaugural season of the TCR Eastern Europe powered by ESET kicked off at the Hungaroring, where the competitors joined their fellow TCR Europe colleagues for two races on Sunday.
Slovak driver Martin Ryba (Brutal Fish Honda Civic FK7) and the Serbian Milovan Vesnič (ASK Vesnič CUPRA) took one win apiece.
In the first race Ryba held on the lead from the start to the end, cruising among the top twenty of the overall classification, but behind him there was a close fight between Vesnič and Czech youngster Jáchym Galáš (GT2 Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI) who eventually finished in the order. Polish driver Jakub Wyszomirsky (ASK Vesnič Honda Civic FK2) was classified fourth. “It was very difficult from the beginning. There was a crash I had to avoid, then there were so many battles and contacts, but I managed to recover three positions and win the class,” said Ryba.
It was raining at the start of Race 2; Galáš had a poor start, was hit from behind and sent into the pit wall. After a safety car period the rain intensified; Ryba who was leading, retired with damage at the front of his car. This paved the way to Vesnič who won from his teammate Wyszomirsky, while Petr Čížek (Fullinrace Academy CUPRA) completed the podium. “This was more a rally stage than a race. I didn‘t have any grip, but overall, it was a very positive weekend. We took one second place and one win, so I want to thank the whole team,” stated Vesnič who is leading the standings, 9 points clear of Ryba.
The series will resume on May 17/19 at the Red Bull Ring.
