Scalvini gives Wimmer Werk the pole at the Red Bull Ring

Eric Scalvini claimed his and Wimmer Werk Motorsport’s maiden pole position in the ADAC TCR Germany championship at the Red Bull Ring. The Italian driver and his CUPRA Leon Competición clocked a lap of 1:36.443 in the dying moments of the first Qualifying session, securing the pole on the grid for today’s Race 1.
Scalvini’s time was half-a-second faster than the provisional fastest lap of 1:36.981 set by the series’ current points leader Luca Engstler in his Team Engstler Hyundai i30 N.
The last driver to improve was Marcel Fugel who posted the third fastest lap of 1:37.051 while the chequered flag was waved at the wheel of his Honda Civic Type R. Fugel’s last gasp effort demoted Engstler’s teammate Martin Andersen to fourth and his own brother and teammate Dominik to fifth.
While Austria-based Wimmer Werk Motorsport celebrated Scalvini’s pole position on their home racetrack, the fastest of the Austrian drivers was championship newcomer Andreas Höfler who qualified sixth in his Lubner Motorsport Opel Astra, eight tenths off the pole, while Sandro Soubek ranked tenth with the MAIR Racing Östtirol-run Audi RS 3 LMS.
Team Engstler’s third driver, local hero Nico Gruber, currently third in the standings behind Engstler and Dominik Fugel, qualified a disappointing 12^th, 1.4 seconds behind Scalvini.
Race 1 at the Red Bull Ring is scheduled to start at 12.10 CEST and will be streamed live at www.tcr-series.com.
