Squadra Martino sign Sapag for TCR South America

Squadra Martino sign Sapag for TCR South America

20 May 2021

A few days after testing at the Autódromo Oscar Cabalén in Alta Gracia, Córdoba, Argentina-based Squadra Martino announced that José Manuel Sapag will be their first driver for the inaugural season of the TCR South America championship.
Sapag who grew previous TCR experience in last year’s TCR Europe is currently racing for the Puma Energy Honda Racing in the Argentine Súper TC2000 championship. During the test in Alta Gracia he shared the wheel of the Squadra Martino’s Honda Civic Type R cars with Facundo Ardusso and Juan Angel ‘Colo’ Rosso.

“The test was really positive. We tested several different things. The goal was not to set fast laps but analyse the Civic’s reactions to different set-up configurations. The TCR cars are fast and nice to handle. I have enough experience with this category to understand that the Honda has a great potential,”

Team principal Sebastián Martino commented: “We are delighted to welcome Sapag in our team. We are aware that this is an interesting challenge, and we are very motivated to work together with him on this project. The test in Alta Gracia was important, now we will continue to accumulate kilometres and data so that we can arrive in the best possible shape to the first events of the championship.”
