TCR Australia’s inaugural season kicks off at Sydney

The inaugural season of the TCR Australia championship kicks off this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park with a field of 17 cars and eight brands of car manufacturers represented.
The event format includes two 30-minute practices on Friday, one 30-minute Qualifying on Saturday morning that will be followed in the afternoon by the first race with a grid based on Qualifying times. Sunday will feature two other back-to-back races, each one with a grid determined by the results of the previous race.
The entry list features some experienced racers such as the former Bathurst 1000 winner Jason Bright (Alliance Autosport VW Golf GTI), the reigning Australian GT champion Tony D’Alberto (DWR Honda Civic), the 2018 Super2 champion Chris Pither and Supercars race winner James Moffat (both in GRM Renault Mégane cars). There are also talented rising stars like the 18-year old Alex Rullo (Kelly Racing Holden Astra), the 2017 Toyota Racing Series champion Jimmy Vernon (ASM Alfa Romeo Giulietta), Will Brown (HMO Hyundai i30 N) and Aaron Cameron (Melbourne Performance VW Golf GTI).
The field is completed by three ladies: Alexandra Whitley (Alliance Autosport VW Golf), Chelsea Angelo (Kelly Racing Holden Astra) and the 2016 Australian Rally champion Molly Taylor (Kelly Racing Subaru WRX).
Rik Breukers, the 21-year-old Dutchman who is an accomplished GT and Touring Car driver will be the guest star of the opening event, racing an Audi RS 3 LMS for Melbourne Performance.
