TCR Japan preview: a three-race event at Sportsland Sugo

22 July 2021

Despite COVID-19 restrictions have been increased in the latest day, the TCR Japan event at Sportsland Sugo will take place as planned.
This time competitors will race three times. Race 1 and Race 3 will be the event's rounds for the Saturday and Sunday series, while Race 2 is the rescheduling for the Autopolis Sunday series' race that was cancelled due to heavy rain.
The event marks the first appearance in the season for three returnees: the 2020 champion Takuro Shinohara in an Audi RS 3 LMS run by Hitotsuyama Racing, the 2019 champion Takeshi Matsumoto in a Birth Racing Project Volkswagen Golf GTI, and 'Mototino' who swapped his Alfa Romeo Giulietta for a Honda Civic Type R entered by 55 Moto Racing.
'Hirobon' is the current leader in both series with his Birth Racing Project-run CUPRA. He leads the Saturday series by ten points over Keiichi Inoue (Nilzz Racing, Audi RS 3 LMS) and Jun Sato (IDI Motor Sports, Volkswagen Golf GTI); ten points is also his leading margin in the Sunday series over Masanobu Kato (Team Mars, Audi RS 3 LMS).
Live streaming of the races at www.tcr-series.com: Saturday, Race 1 at 12:15 (05:15 CEST) and Race 2 at 16:30 (09:30 CEST); Sunday, Race 3 at 14:20 (07:20 CEST).
