Team Engstler to campaign five cars in TCR Malaysia
11 January 2019
The Liqui Moly Team Engstler will take part in the new TCR Malaysia series with five cars, in a continuation of a successful partnership with the Sepang International Circuit’s programme that aims to develop Malaysian motorsport talents.
In 2018 the team entered Mitchell Cheah in the TCR Asia Series and the young Malaysian finished runner up to his teammate Luca Engstler.
“We are proud of our collaboration with SIC and we will actively support the young driver development programme for the next three years,” said Kurt Treml, Sport & Marketing Director.
Razlan Razali, CEO of Sepang International Circuit echoed: “We are pleased to continue our collaboration with Engstler Motorsport, as they have proven their ability in developing our young drivers. The next step for Mitchell Cheah and the team is assessing the nominated drivers who emerged in the 2018 Malaysian Championship Series and to guide them in their participation in TCR Malaysia.”
Three drivers will be selected to compete in the news series, each one of them will take part in one TCR Malaysia event at the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf GTI car; the best of them, as decided by the team and Cheah, will be entered in the 2019 TCR Asia Series.
The team’s line up will also include two Hyundai i30 N cars, one for Luca Engstler, while Théo Coicaud and Michael John Soong will share the second one, plus two more Golf cars for Kai Jordan, and Henry Kwong (the latter will only take part in the first event).
