The TCR Italy championship returns to Imola after five weeks

TCR Italy resumes after the summer break in the same circuit - Imola - that had hosted the previous event at the end of July.
On that occasion Kevin Ceccon won the first race at the wheel of the Hyundai i30 N run by Aggressive Team Italia, while Mikel Azcona - who was making a one off return to the series - won Race 2 in his Volcano Motorsport CUPRA Leon Competición, beating Antti Buri who jumped on top of the standings.
The Finn who drives a Target Competition Hyundai i30 N has built a 21-point lead over Ceccon, while his own teammate Nicola Baldan lies third, 12 further points adrift. Other title contenders are Eric Brigliadori (BF Motorsport) who has dropped his Audi RS 3 LMS for a Hyundai i30 N, and the defending champion Salvatore Tavano (Scuderia del Girasole, CUPRA Leon Competición) who are in fourth and fifth positions with gaps of 34 and 42 points respectively.
The Italian championship continues to attract guest drivers from other TCR series. At Imola the Spain-based RC2 Junior Team will run two CUPRA Leon Competición cars for Felipe Fernández and Venezuela's Sergio López. The Spanish outfit that competes in both the TCR Spain and Campeonato de España Resistencia had visited Italy in July, making a successful appearance in the Coppa Italia Turismo at Vallelunga where López and Rubén Fernández took one race win apiece.
