Three men within four points in the title fight

28 September 2019

Only four points cover the three drivers who will be fighting tomorrow for the TCR Germany title in the last race of the season at the Sachsenring.
Following today’s first race, that was won by Dominik Fugel, Max Hesse has retained the leadership in the standings, but his pursuers Harald Proczyk and Antti Buri have reduced their gaps to three and four points respectively.
Still in contention – but only by the numbers – is Mike Halder who has a gap of 28 points when 40 are still on offer.
At the start, Dominik Fugel sprinted from the pole position into the lead, while Buri, who was third on the grid, muscled his way past Mike Halder to take P2. With Harald Proczyk in fourth position, Max Hesse moved into fifth after passing Marcel Fugel – as they made contact – and Théo Coicaud.
After a safety car intervention, from lap 8 to lap 10 to recover Mitchell Cheah’s car from the gravel trap at T10, Fugel and Buri pulled away by the rest of the field, while Mike Halder and Proczyk were holding their third and fourth positions. Behind them it was drama for Hesse, whose pace faded in the last couple of laps and so he dropped from fifth to eight behind Michelle Halder and Pascal Eberle.
In the final lap, Buri was chasing Fugel very closely, but couldn’t find a gap to pass; Fugel took his maiden win of the season with a five-tenth margin over Buri.
Race 2 takes place Sunday at 11:00 CET, with the Opel Astra of Philipp Regensperger and the Honda Civic of Marcel Fugel sharing the front row of the reverse grid; live streaming at www.tcr-series.com and www.tcr-series.tv.
