Wernersson sets pole at Mantorp Park before the storm

Lestrup Racing’s Andreas Wernersson claimed his maiden pole position in TCR Scandinavia on the eve of the season’s finale at Mantorp Park.
It was a thrilling session with Wernersson’s Volkswagen Golf GTI posting a provisional fastest lap of 1:20.904 in the first stages that was soon improved by Robert Dahlgren’s Cupra to 1:20.818. Wernersson struck back with a lap of 1:20.411 halfway through, while his rivals tried in vain to go faster.
Eventually Hugo Nerman posted the second fastest lap of 1:20.516 in his KMS Golf, ahead of Dahlgren (1:20.572) and Daniel Haglöf (1:20.579).
Johan Kristoffersson, who is currently second in the standings behind Dahlgren and ahead of Wernersson, qualified in seventh position.
The top 13 drivers were covered by less than half-a-second.
A few minutes before the end of Q1, dark clouds arrived and heaven opened. A storm hit the track hard and the race director waved the red flag and then cancelled Q2.
Grid positions were allocated according to Q1 results and no Qualifying points were awarded. The most disappointed was Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky who missed the cut on her final run by 25 thousandths and was in the pits for fresh tyres when the session was stopped.
The Brink Motorsport Audi RS3 LMS of Tobias Brink qualified tenth and secured pole position for Race 2.
