TCR cars will race in the Baltic States from next year, competing in the new TCR Baltic Trophy within the frame of the Baltic Touring Car Championship (BaTCC), but also in a dedicated class inside two 1000 km races.
Promoter Darius Jonušis explained: “We are sure that TCR will be successful in the Baltic region. It is the natural choice for teams with relatively limited budgets, but with the ambition of racing anywhere in the world with the very same car.”
National Motorsport Authorities from all three Baltic countries agreed to introduce the new TCR class in next year’s BaTCC calendar.
The Lithuanian Motorsport Federation’s Circuit Racing committee chairman Rimvydas Agurkis said: “This is a huge step towards raising the popularity of circuit racing in our countries. Besides that, with the introduction of the TCR class we have the possibility to invite more world class racing teams and drivers from other countries to participate in the BaTCC.”
Latvian Motorsport Federation Circuit Racing committee chairman Jānis Ducmanis commented: “TCR is an international Touring Car category in which similar cars provide exciting door-to-door racing and this is what the spectators like most.”
Estonian Racing Federation Circuit Racing committee chairman Toomas Lambin added: “TCR has a great future. There are still only a few TCR cars in the Baltic States, but some more teams have already placed orders, and some more are very interested. In a few years we will have much greater TCR grids.”
In 2017 the TCR Baltic Trophy will be awarded over three race meetings: two in Latvia and one in Estonia, while a TCR class will be included in the 1000 km races of Palanga and Pärnu.
