A 17-car field in TCR Eastern Europe’s opener at Hungaroring

08 April 2022

The 2022 TCR Eastern Europe championship begins this weekend at the Hungaroring with a record field of 17 cars thanks to the occasional addition of the two Janík Motorsport Hyundai Elantra N cars of Mat’o Homola and Jáchym Galáš.

The 2021 champions Michal Makeš and Mičánek Motorsport dropped the CUPRA but were not able to buy a new car in time for racing at the Hungaroring.. The new CUPRA Leon Competición has been chosen by three of Makeš' strongest contenders: Auto Klub Dubrovnik's Žarko Knego and the Fullinrace Academy pair of Carol Wittke - third in the 2021 championship - and Petr Čížek.

Janík Motorsport, that placed Galaš third in the 2020 season, returns to the championship with a couple of Hyundai i30 N cars for Petr Semerád and Václav Janík.

Bartosz Groszek, who made an impressive debut last year winning on his maiden appearance and finishing fourth in the championship, will race again an Audi RS 3 LMS for Aditis Racing, teaming with Radim Adámek. Also at the wheel of an Audi car run by his own team is the 2020 champion Milovan Vesnić who is eager to make up from last year's disappointing campaign.

A very much awaited participation is that of the Besagroup Vuković Motorsport-run Renault Megane RS cars in the hands of Milenko Vuković and Franjo Kovač. The last time the French car raced in the series dates back to 2019, when Tomáš Pekař won at the Red Bull Ring.
