Gülden completes a solo flight on the Nordschleife

08 April 2018

The comeback of Mathilda Racing and Andreas Gülden to the VLN series turned into a success, as they won the TCR class.
Gülden, who leaves nearby the Nürburgring, had dominated the class last year, sharing a Mathilda Racing Volkswagen Golf GTI with Benjamin Leuchter. Yesterday he undertook a real ‘tour de force’, winning the 43rd DMV 4 Hours – second round of the VLN – without sharing his Cupra TCR.
Gülden qualified third in class, 2.6 seconds off the pole set by the Norwegian trio of Håkon Schjærin, Alte Gulbrandsen and Kenneth Østvold in their Audi RS3 TCR. However, he was faster and consistent during the race. He set a fastest lap of 8:55.497 and relegated the Lubner Motorsport Opel Astra TCR of Thorsten Wolter, Rudolf Rhyn and Thomas Jäger to second place with a gap of two-and-a-half minutes. The Norwegian Audi finished third a further 26 seconds adrift, beating the LMS Racing Cupra of Antti Buri and Kari-Pekka Laaksonen by only three tenths. The FEV Racing Cupra of Benedikt Gentgen and Arndt Hallmanns – the winner of the VLN opener – was classified fifth.
The series third round will take place on 23 June, while next week the Nordschleife will host the 4-hour Qualifying race for the ADAC 24 Hours.
