Guerrieri flies and Muller joins Tarquini on top

Esteban Guerrieri literally flew to take an authoritative win in the WTCR Race 2 at the Nordschleife. The Argentine drove his All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport Honda Civic to victory, ahead of Pepe Oriola’s Cupra. Frédéric Vervisch with the Comtoyou Audi RS3 LMS won the exciting battle for third place, overtaking Yvan Muller’s Hyundai on the long straight at the end of the road course.
With Gabriele Tarquini retiring after an accident, just like in Thursday’s Race 1, Muller (4^th) and Norbert Michelisz (5^th) made the best use of the race towards the point standings. The Frenchman has joined Tarquini at 118 points, while the Hungarian lies third six points behind ahead of Race 3 that will start at 12:20.
At the start, pole-sitter Oriola kept the advantage but was passed by Guerrieri at Turn 1. Guest star René Rast, who had a poor start from the front row, made contact with Rob Huff at Turn 2; they both retired.
Guerrieri led with a slim gap ahead of Oriola, Muller, Yann Ehrlacher, Vervisch, Michelisz, Jean-Karl Vernay and Tarquini. The Italian clashed with Gordon Shedden, hit the barriers and retired. On the straight Vervisch passed Ehrlacher for 4^th and Berthon took 9^th from Björk, who pitted at the end of the lap.
In the fierce battle for third, Vervisch passed Muller on the long straight, but the Frenchman recovered his position in the Grand Prix section. Ehrlacher, Michelisz, Vernay and Shedden were closely following them. 
With Guerrieri and Oriola comfortably first and second, Vervisch repeated the overtaking manoeuvre on the straight and stole third place from Muller and Michelisz did the same for fifth place passing Erlacher.
