Muller encores and leads Björk in a 1-2 for Lynk&Co

17 November 2019

Yvan Muller encored his yesterday’s victory and led Thed Björk in a 1-2 finish for Lynk&Co in the WTCR second race at Macau.
With Esteban Guerrieri finishing fourth and Norbert Michelisz tenth, the fight for the title became even closer. Michelisz retained the leadership in the standings, but his margin over Guerrieri was reduced to 11 points, while Muller has further closed in and is now only six points behind the Argentine. Björk too remains well in contention, 33 points off the leader.
In what was another processional race, Kevin Ceccon emerged as the more pugnacious driver, passing Guerrieri for P3 and trying to chase the leading duo; and so the young Italian presented another nice podium result to Team Mulsanne and Alfa Romeo.
At the start Yann Ehrlacher, Björk and Muller led from Guerrieri and Ceccon; Niels Langeveld spun at Lisbõa after making contact with Frédéric Vervisch and Mehdi Bennani had to brake in avoidance. During the first lap, Ehrlacher let Björk and Muller go through and then Muller passed Björk for the lead.
At the beginning of lap 2, Guerrieri overtook Ehrlacher for P3 at the Lisbõa, the Frenchman lost momentum and dropped behind Ceccon, Johan Kristoffersson and Nicky Catsburg.
In lap 3, Ceccon and passed Guerrieri for P3; in lap 4, Catsburg overtook Kristoffersson for P5 and began chasing Guerrieri. In lap 6, Bennani and Attila Tassi collided at the Lisbõa bend and went straight in the escape road, while Vervisch passed Vernay for P10.
During the final lap Catsburg slows down to drop behind Michelisz and Gabriele Tarquini who were then classified tenth and eleventh.
Race 3 will follow at 11:25 local time (04:25 CET).
