Nardilli and Giorgi share Coppa Italia race wins at Misano
The penultimate event of the Coppa Italia Turismo took place at Misano, where Davide Nardilli (MM Motorsport, Honda Civic Type R FK2) and Gabriele Giorgi (NOS Racing, Volkswagen Golf GTI) shared race wins.
Saturday, Nardilli made a great start from P4 on the grid and led from lights to the flag, while Edoardo Barbolini (BF Motorsport, Audi RS 3 LMS) who sat on pole went off and retired after making contact with Kevin Giacon (MM Motorsport, Honda Civic Type R FK7) who was given a drive-through for causing the incident. Alfredo De Matteo (Calcagni Motorsport, Volkswagen Golf GTI) and Giorgi finished the race behind Nardilli but were both given 25-second penalties for overtaking during a safety car period and so dropped to seventh and ninth. Alessio Aiello (MM Motorsport, Honda Civic Type R FK7) and Riccardo Romagnoli (Ten Job, CUPRA DSG) were promoted to second and third, while Giacon recovered to fourth.
Giorgi made up for the disappointment by claiming victory in Sunday’s Race 2 ahead of Barbolini who made a good recovery after starting from P15 and Giacon, while Aiello finished out of the points having received a 25-second penalty for a collision with Romagnoli. As for Nardilli, he retired after an incident with Luca Maria Attianese (Calcagni Motorsport, Volkswagen Golf GTI).
These results launched Giacon on top of the standings, one point clear of Aiello and four of Nardilli, but Barbolini too is still in contention with a gap of eight points from the leader.
The series will come to an end at Vallelunga next week.
