PURE ETCR’s revised promotional calendar unveiled

PURE ETCR’s revised promotional calendar unveiled

17 July 2020

Eurosport Events, the promoter of the new PURE ETCR series, the world’s first all-electric multi-manufacturer touring car championship, unveiled a revised calendar for the 2020 promotional events.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced car manufacturers and engineering companies to suspend the building of the racing cars, but also created international travel restrictions that prevented them from visiting Williams Advanced Engineering in the UK to finalise the integration of the mandatory ETCR kits to their chassis within the timeframe originally planned. The effects of these delays now mean that a schedule focused on Europe provides the best way of showcasing this new series.
Eurosport Events has worked tirelessly with WSC – the entity behind the ETCR concept and technical regulations – and series stakeholders to secure a new schedule for PURE ETCR cars, partnering with a mixture of forward-thinking and internationally-established events to create a showcase for the most powerful touring cars ever seen on a global scale.
PURE ETCR’s promotional season will start at the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix on 9 October, where the covers will come off the competing manufacturers’ cars during a spectacular event as part of the city’s ‘Night of Culture’ ceremony. Denmark’s capital targets carbon-neutral status by 2025, making it a perfect place for PURE ETCR, which aims to change perceptions of electric vehicles and showcase their potential as sporty, fast and fun ways of getting around. Not only will each of the competing manufacturers be represented, but the concept for the centrepiece of the PURE ETCR paddock – the Energy Station – will also be unveiled.
The series moves on to Goodwood where, from October 15-18, the new ‘Speed Week’ event will use a one-off format in which innovation will meet tradition on one of the most celebrated historic circuits in the world. This will be the PURE ETCR’s cars and drivers’ first public taste of a permanent racetrack and be broadcast live online.
Motorland Aragón in Spain will give fans a first opportunity to see the cars in anger on a modern circuit as part of the  weekend on 31 October-1 November.
Finally, Adria International Raceway – on Italy’s Adriatic coast – will host a spectacular ‘dress rehearsal’ for the 2021 season on 14-15 November with the unique on-track ‘battle’ format, unique starting gate, Energy Station and Hot Zone all in use. With Adria also hosting the WTCR season decider and full TV production facilities in place, the scene is set for a thrilling event in anticipation of a first full PURE ETCR season – with a global title up for grabs – in 2021.
Further announcements on the 2020 promotional calendar and the first full championship in 2021 will be made in due course.
