The 2020 WTCR season kicks off at Zolder

10 September 2020

The FIA WTCR kicks off at Zolder for a season that has been seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in a shortened scheduled limited to six events in Europe.
The full season entry list includes twenty cars, representing seven brands of manufacturers: Alfa Romeo, Audi, CUPRA, Honda, Hyundai, Lynk & Co and Renault.
Norbert Michelisz defends the title, the second in a row won by Hyundai and BRC Racing Team; once again Michelisz is teaming with the 2018 champion Gabriele Tarquini. Their strongest competitors appear to be the 2019 runner-up Esteban Guerrieri and his fellow countryman Néstor Girolami; the Argentine pair return at the wheel of Honda Civic cars run by Münnich Motorsport. Chinese manufacturer Lynk & Co represents the third force in the championship with their strong team led by veterans Yvan Muller and Thed Björk.
Amogst the rookies who have joined the series are three youngsters coming from the TCR Europe Series: Luca Engstler (Hyundai i30 N), Gilles Magnus (Audi RS 3 LMS) and Santiago Urrutia (Lynk & Co 03).
The latest entries include former TCR Europe champions Jean-Karl Vernay (Alfa Romeo Giulietta) and Mikel Azcona (CUPRA Leon Competición), while TCR Australia title contender Dylan O'Keeffe will make a one-off appearance in a Renault Mégane RS.
