The ADAC TCR Germany championship moves to Austria
10 June 2021
The ADAC TCR Germany moves to Austria for its second event of the season that takes place at the Red Bull Ring.
Luca Engstler arrives as the leader of the standings having won both races in the season opener at Oschersleben at the wheel of his Team Engstler Hyundai i30 N. Engstler has already built a 22-point margin over Dominik Fugel (Team ADAC Sachsen, Honda Civic Type R FK7), while his own teammate Nico Gruber lies in third position five further points adrift. Gruber, who lives 200km from the circuit, is eager to make the most out of the home-ground advantage.
Other drivers to watch are Fugel's younger brother Marcel, currently fourth in the standings, and Team Engstler's third driver and TCR Denmark vice-champion Martin Andersen who set pole position for Oschersleben's Race 1.
Austria-based Wimmer Werk Motorsport is also hoping to achieve some good results with its four entries, one Audi RS 3 LMS for Peter Gross and three CUPRA Leon Competición cars driven by Christian Voithofer, Günter Benninger and the Italian Eric Scalvini; the latter has proved very competitive in the first event at Oschersleben where he was fighting for podium positions.
The championship also welcomes three local guest drivers: Sandro Soubek (Mair Racing Östtirol, Audi RS 3 LMS) returns after taking part in the 2020 season in which showed some strong performance with his Audi RS3 LMS, while Lubner Motorsport fields three Opel Astra cars adding Andreas Höfler and Mario Klammer to regular driver Philipp Regensperger.
The two races will be streamed live at www.tcr-series.com; Saturday at 12:10 and Sunday at 15:05 (CEST).
