The WTCR resumes on the Nordschleife

23 September 2020

The WTCR has moved to the Nürburgring for rounds 3 and 4 that will be held on the Nordschleife 25-km road course.
Yann Ehrlacher (Cyan Racing, Lynk & Co 03) has emerged as the first points leader after the season opener at Zolder, where the young Frenchman proved to be one of the fastest drivers in Qualifying and then took an authoritative win in the second race.
He arrives to the Nürburgring with a margin of seven points ahead of Néstor Girolami (Münnich Motorsport, Honda Civic Type R) who had won the first race in Belgium.
The impressive performance of the Lynk & Co cars were confirmed by Yvan Muller and Santiago Urrutia who completed a 1-2-3 finish for the Chinese manufacturer in Zolder's Race 2 and are currently placed third and fourth in the standings.
Amongst those who are eager to make up from a disappointing start of the season are the defending champion Norbert Michelisz (BRC Racing Team, Hyundai i30 N) and Girolami's teammate Esteban Guerrieri. They both are at ease on the infamous German circuit where last year Guerrieri set the pole position and Michelisz won Race 1.
WTCR competitors will hit the track on Thursday for two free practice sessions and the Qualifying; Race 1 will follow on Friday afternoon and Race 2 will start on Saturday morning.
