Tobias Brink claims two pole positions in Mantorp Park
Brink Motorsport Audi driver Tobias Brink has claimed pole position for the first two races of the TCR Scandinavia championship tomorrow at Mantorp Park. In doing so, the 31-year-old has closed in on points leader Robert Dahlgren, who could only manage eighth in both sessions and will be dropped to 13th on the grid for Race 1 following a penalty from the previous event.
In the first 20-minute session, Brink improved on the first competitive benchmark set by Lestrup Racing Team’s Oliver Söderström to go fastest with a lap time of 1:19.714, while championship contender Rob Huff, whose first run was spoiled by a safety car intervention, was able to get back out on track with seconds to spare to jump into to second position.
In the ten-minute Q2 session, Brink laid down a time of 1:19.260 on his first and only run, which proved unbeatable, with the two Lestrup Racing Team Volkswagen cars of Söderström and Huff finishing the session second and third, over half a second behind.
Brink’s team-mate Hannes Morin was the driver who caused the safety car in Qualifying 1, going off at the Mjölby corner, and will start from 14th and last for the first two races.
Dahlgren continues to lead the standings on 100 points, but Brink is now just seven points behind, and Huff nine points heading into race day.
The first race is scheduled for 10:00 CEST tomorrow, with Race 2 at 13:33, and Race 3, with the reversed top-eight grid, at 15:34.
