Tom Kwok and Hevey share wins at Trois-Rivières

11 August 2019

Canada TCC competitors delivered two eventful races on the tricky street circuit of Trois-Rivières’ Parc des Exposition. On a wet Friday evening, Tom Kwok dominated the first race, while Jean-François Hevey took victory in Saturday’s Race 2. Current championship leader M&S Racing’s Gary Kwok, who had swapped his Honda Civic FK2 for a Civic FK7, finished second and third in the two races; however he was given a 30-point penalty for causing a collision at the start of the second race and so his leading margin was reduced to 20 points over Travis Hill, while Hevey has moved into third, one further point behind.
Friday’s Race 1 took place at dusk and under a pouring rain; Tom Kwok made good use of the pole and led for the whole race, unchallenged. Behind him, Gary Kwok strenuously defended the second position; despite the pressure he didn’t make the lesser mistake while his chasers were not so good. Matthew Taskinen spun halfway through the 40-minute race, while he was in third position and chasing Kwok. Later on Alain Lauzière and Hill, who were third and fourth, went straight together at the Porte Pacific-Duplessis and lost time before rejoining. Nelson Chan spun with ten minutes left on the clock and dropped from fifth to eighth. Finally, after losing third place to Hevey, Bob Attrell spun with two minutes to go but retained the fourth position.
Race 2 was run Saturday in a sunny afternoon. At the start Gary Kwok spun after making contact with a GT car and dropped to 10th overall and 6th in TCR.  Hevey took the lead in the class, while there was a close fight for the second position that saw Attrell overtaking Lauzière on the 7th lap. Attrell closed the gap from Hevey and took the lead on lap 11, while the Kwok brothers had recovered to third and fourth in TCR. On lap 12, Gary Kwok dived to the inside of Lauzière at the Porte Pacific-Duplessis, Lauzière went straight and Tom Kwok took the opportunity to overtake his brother and move into second. With 12-minutes to go, Attrelll crashed out from the lead at the Porte Duplessis; the safety car was deployed and led the field until the end of the race, with Hevey winning the TCR class from Tom and Gary Kwok.
The Canada TCC will come to an end with the season’s finale at Bowmanville Motorsport Park in two-week time.
