Wernersson wins Race 2 to close the gap on Dahlgren

14 July 2019

Andreas Wernersson took a lights-to-flag victory in Race 2 at Falkenberg in his Brink Motorsport Audi RS 3 LMS, with Mattias Andersson Civic finishing in second place and Race 1 winner – and series leader – Robert Dahlgren in third.
Wernersson made a great start from pole position, with Dahlgren making a poor start and dropping to eighth. Andersson soon passed Andreas Ahlberg for second place while Dahlgren began his fight back through the field, passing Tomas Engström for seventh on Lap 6.
Ahlberg and Tobias Brink made contact on the following lap, with Brink’s Audi taking third place from the Volkswagen driver. Albin Wärnelöv then dropped out of contention with a technical issue, which elevated Dahlgren to sixth position, who was then easily able to pass his teammate Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky as she was struggling for grip.
Dahlgren then passed Ahlberg and Brink on successive laps to move up into third position behind Andersson, but that’s as far as his recovery went. Another determinedly defensive drive from Andersson meant the frustrated Dahlgren remained in third place for the remaining fifteen laps, the pair finishing just under two-tenths of a second apart but over ten seconds behind the race winner Wernersson.
Brink finished fourth, around half a second clear of Ahlberg, with Engström a further three-tenths adrift in sixth place. Åhlin-Kottulinsky was seventh, while Hannes Morin, Jonas Lynge and Peter Wallenberg rounded off the top ten.
The result means Wernersson has closed the gap on Dahlgren and just 16 points now separate the pair.
The next round of the series is at Karlskoga on August 17th/18th
