WSC unveils the format of the TCR World Ranking Final

The WSC Group has unveiled details of the TCR World Ranking Final’s event format that will be run across three days with the participation of the first 15 drivers in the KUMHO World Tour final classification and the 45 drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Ranking. 

 

Play-offs

The 45 drivers from the KUMHO TCR World Ranking will be split by a draw into three groups of 15: A, B and C and will take part in the Play-off Races.

 

Day 1

There will be one Free Practice session of 30 minutes for the 15 drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour.

There will be three Free Practice sessions of 30 minutes and one Qualifying session of 20 minutes per each of the three Groups: A, B and C. 

Day 2

There will be two Free Practice sessions of 30 minutes and one Qualifying session of 30 minutes for the 15 drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour.

 

There will be three Play-off Races between the Groups A, B and C, each one of 20 minutes + 1 lap. Two groups will race off against each other in each Race, creating fields of up to 30 cars. 

The grid will be set based on the Qualifying times of each group, with the fastest car of the two groups starting from Pole Position, and the next group’s quickest driver will start from second position. The grid will continue to alternate in this pattern, with each group effectively forming a line down each side of the grid. 

There will be at least a three-hour turnaround between each race.

 

After the three Play-off Races, the top 15 drivers will progress to the Finals according to the following points scale.

Qualifying points: 1st 3 pts; 2nd 2 pts; 3rd 1 pt

Race points: 1st 25 pts; 2nd 21 pts; 3rd 18 pts; 4th 15 pts; 5th 13 pts; 6th 11 pts; 7th 9 pts; 8th 8 pts; 9th 7 pts; 10th 6 pts; 11th 5 pts; 12th 4 pts; 13th 3 pts; 14th 2 pts; 15th 1 pt. 

Fastest lap: 1 pt

 

In case of dead heat, the following criteria will be used to determine the order:

1 - Best race result 

2 - Best qualifying result

3 - Fastest lap from the races

 

Day 3

There will be three Races


1 - Qualifying Race of 20 minutes + 1 lap

The grid will be set based on the results of the Qualifying session for the drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour and the results of the three Play-off Races.

The line of the grid with pole position will be formed by the drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour, according to the results of the Qualifying session. The other line of the grid will be formed by the drivers who qualified through the Play-off Races, according to the points scored in the Play-off classification.

 

2 - Repechage Race of 15 minutes + 1 lap for all 30 competitors which were eliminated from the Play-offs. The first four drivers classified in the Race will be admitted to the Final Race.

The grid will be based on the points scored in the Play-off classification, with the dead heat criteria used in the case of equal or no points being scored by the drivers.

 

3 - Final Race of 30 minutes + 1 lap, with the grid based on the results of the Qualifying Race and the first four drivers classified in the Repechage Race placed in the positions from 31 to 34.

 

Race numbers

Each driver will be allocated the Race Number corresponding to his/her position in the KUMHO TCR World Ranking in the published ranking on January 10th 2024. 

 

Tyres allocation

12 new tyres per each of the 45 drivers who qualified for the Play-offs

14 new tyres allocated per each of the 15 drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour

6 additional tyres per each of the 15 drivers who qualified for the Final races through the Play-offs

2 additional tyres per each of the 30 competitors of the Repechage Race  

2 additional tyres per each of the 4 drivers who qualified for the Final races through the Repechage Race

 

Titles

 

Three Titles will be awarded in the TCR World Ranking Final.

Drivers’ Champion - to the winner of the Final Race

Teams’ Champion - to the entrant of the Final Race winning car.

Manufacturers’ Champion - it will be awarded according to the points scored by the first six cars of each Manufacturer; all other cars of the same Manufacturer will be transparent.

 

Prize Money

 

The value of 500,000 € in tyres for the 2024 season will be equally split among the 15 drivers who qualified for the Final through the Play-off Races.
